Accessibility
The website is run by the Safe Steps for Essex Safe Start Fund and we are committed to making our online platforms accessible to all and aim to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 level AA. Google Lighthouse currently awards the maximum accessibility score of 100/100 (Desktop) and 100/100 (Mobile), indicating full compliance with best practices for accessibility.
We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. You can use the UserWay Accessibility plugin to make changes to the website and make it more accessible for you. The UserWay Accessibility functionality gives these functions to the user and is available as a pop-out menu on all pages.
On this website, you should be able to:
- change colours, contrast levels and fonts
- highlight links
- pause animations
- hide images
- increase the size of the cursor
- add reading guides
- increase text size, text spacing, line height and zoom in
- navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
- navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
- listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver).
We have also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.
